“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” -Elizabeth Andrew

If you love books, reading and children, NeighborImpact has a rewarding opportunity for you!  We promise a volunteer experience you won’t forget!

This is a once a month opportunity to provide the Head Start program and the children of Head Start a memorable and fun literacy event and to help us build the Head Start Library.

As a volunteer, once a month, or as your schedule allows, you will generously purchase or provide a gently used book of your choice (within the requirements) for the Head Start Library and the teachers will coordinate a day that you will read that book to all of the Head Start students.  The only requirements for the book of your choice must be preschool level and contain no information regarding religion or holidays.  There are so many great selections of books by several different authors; examples are Dr. Seuss, Mem Fox, Jannell Cannon and Steven Kellogg.

This will be an exciting monthly event that will be memorable to the children and a great way to improve their listening and speaking skills.  By sharing our enthusiasm for reading, we help children become confident readers.

If this program interests you and you are interested in making a difference in the life of a child though Head Start, volunteering is easy.  Please fill out the online Volunteer Application today and email, mail or fax to NeighborImpact.

Applicants for all Head Start positions are required to complete the TB Screening form and apply for enrollment in the Oregon Employment Department Child Care Division Criminal History Registry, paying their online registry fee of $3.00. Registration must be complete before date of placement. Once you have received your confirming registration letter, which is usually a quick turn around, please bring it and the TB Screening form with you to your first day.
