Grow A Row
for the Food Bank
NeighborImpact is
promoting a local version of
a national
program “Grow-A-Row”. This program
encourages gardeners and farmers to plant extra
food to donate to area food pantries. The goal
of the program is to increase access to healthy
nutritional fruits and vegetables. Food pantries
throughout Central Oregon are excited about the
possibility to having fresh food to hand out to
those in need. NeighborImpact is directing
gardeners who are interested in donating fresh
quality produce to visit the NeighborImpact web
site for a listing of food pantries in their
communities. Farmers who are interested in this
program can contact NeighborImpact’s Food
Coordinator, Steve Murray, at 548-2380 #108.
Pottery Games,
Wednesday July 29th
The
Pottery Games is the precursor to Empty Bowl
held in November 15th. At the "Games" the
public is invited to watch local potters compete
for medals and in competitions as varied as the
best and biggest bowl, best bowl thrown blind
folded, best bowls thrown with no-hands and
lastly using audience participation, best tandem
thrown bowls. Everyone can contribute by making
hand formed bowls.
The Pottery Games will be held at
the Old Mill Quarter
(550 SW Industrial Way in front
of CinderCone) from 4-8:00 pm. The event is
free and family friendly.

Jeld-Wen Tradition
Champions Tour to Benefit NeighborImpact
NeighborImpact
is one of several non-profit organizations that
will be part of the Charity Ticket Program for
the 21st Annual JELD-WEN Tradition Champions
Tour PGA Golf Tournament to be held August
17-23, 2009 at Cross water Club, Sunriver,
Oregon. The JELD-WEN Tradition is one of five
Majors Championships played annually. In 2008
the Champions Tour events combined donated more
than $9 million dollars to charity. This is the
first year for the 2009 Charity Ticket Program
being offered by JELD-WEN Tradition. Spectators
can purchase tickets for the 72 Hole Golf
Tournament and 100% of those ticket sales will
benefit NeighborImpact. Daily Grounds Tickets
are available for $20 and Season Badges are
available for $40. Tickets may be purchased at

can

NeighborImpact In the News:

Head Start:
Head Start is seeking federal funds to extend
services to 120 children ages birth to three and
their families. Energy programs including
heating assistance, housing weatherization and
energy education are helping over 6,000
household this year.

Federal
Stimulus Funds:
NeighborImpact is focusing its
allocation of stimulus funds on
meeting the basic needs of those
most affected by the community’s
high unemployment and job
reductions. Families and
individuals seeking help has
increased two to three times what we
saw two years ago. Rent, utilities,
emergency food assistance will all
expand. Child Care Resources is
also assisting parents to find
affordable/quality care.
We have applied for three AmeriCorps
Members two to assist in increasing
volunteerism. One will be placed
with our partner Volunteer Insights
and one will work internally as a
Volunteer Coordinator for Early Care
and Education. One member will
work as a medical navigator to help
Head Start families access health
care services.

Food Bank: In
August the food bank will be hosting a
AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer from Wy'East Resource
and Conservation Development Area Council.
The volunteer's focus will be on conducting a
Central Oregon regional food
security assessment, promote the "Grow A Row"
program and develop
community gardens.
Hungry All Year Round just
concluded a successful month long food drive,
raising 10,335 pounds of food, $5,980
(equivalent to 35,883 pounds of food
@$6/pound) for a total so far, results
are still coming in of 46,218 pounds of
food.
Housing Center:
The Housing Center is offering
foreclosure
intervention workshops
every other Monday evening
throughout the summer to homeowners
having trouble making their mortgage
payments. Reservations are required.

counseling are free.
Homebuyer educations classes are
heating up! Potential first-time
homebuyers are enrolling in
NeighborImpact’s “Realizing the
American Dream” class to learn
more about home buying. The
class helps prospective home buyers
figure out if they can take
advantage of the federal tax credit
and the Housing Center’s down
payment assistance program. Check
out the NeighborImpact Housing

to find out class dates and times.

Housing counselors currently are
enrolling qualified households for
the Individual Development
Account which is a matched
savings program for low income
households who want to save for
homeownership or business creation
or expansion. Participants earn $3
for every $1 they save, with a
maximum savings of $8,000 ($2,000
personal savings, $6,000 match from
state funds). For more information
