Like many things in 2020, the NeighborImpact Empty Bowls Event will look different this year. There will be no in person event where neighbors gather to enjoy a meal and listen to music. Instead, families will come together in their own homes to enjoy a home cooked meal with ingredients provided by the students at the Cascade Culinary Institute and trimmings provided by local restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries.
Specifically, for the price of an Empty Bowls ticket, each participant will receive a gift basket including a handmade bowl created by local potters, dry soup mix created by students from the Cascade Culinary Institute, a gift certificate for bread from The Village Baker, a coffee/tea gift card from Strictly Organic Coffee Company, a cookie from Bleu Bite Catering or a cupcake card from Too Sweet Cakes, and gift certificates for a bowl of soup, chili or appetizer from a variety of restaurant partners. Each basket will be assembled, wrapped and delivered to each home by our wonderful volunteers from First Interstate Bank.

About Empty Bowls
Empty Bowls is an internationally recognized event that raises awareness of hunger and hunger-related issues. Empty Bowls began in 1990 as an art class project in a Michigan high school to raise funds for a food drive. Students made ceramic bowls, served a meal of soup and bread, and invited guests to keep the bowl as a reminder of hunger in the world. Since its inception, this simple project has evolved into a far-reaching program providing support for food banks, soup kitchens, and other organizations fighting hunger. Empty Bowls events have been held throughout the world, raising millions of dollars for use in combating hunger.
Locally, funds raised from the event support the NeighborImpact Emergency Food Assistance program, which delivers over 4 million pounds of food annually to supply food sites throughout Central Oregon. Every month, over 26,000 persons receive food through those locations.
