NeighborImpact celebrates Weatherization Day October 30
Central Oregon– On October 30, NeighborImpact will join the nation in celebrating national weatherization day.
NeighborImpact’s Weatherization program reduces energy costs for low-income households by increasing the energy efficiency of the homes while ensuring the resident’s health and safety. Common Weatherization measures include air sealing; floor, wall and attic insulation; duct sealing and furnace repair or replacement.
Every $1 dollar invested in the Weatherization Assistance Program yields $4.50 in benefits, including energy savings, health and safety. NeighborImpact contracts with 8 local small businesses to install weatherization updates at no cost to the client. Last year, the program weatherized more than 100 homes across Central Oregon and infused more than one million dollars in the local economy through small businesses and contractors. Nationally, weatherization saves families $283 a year on average in energy costs.
One of the most important steps in the Weatherization process is the Home Energy Audit. NeighborImpact auditors crawl under homes, into attics, inspect ducts and run a blower-door test to determine how “leaky” each home is. This helps them determine the most important and effective measures to install.
“I would recommend anybody that has any home issues that qualifies for the Weatherization program to do it,” said Weatherization client Linda Hudson. “They won’t be sorry!”
