ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

NEW BEGINNINGS

In the past seasons we have accepted applications as we received them. This became unmanageable when we received 1,000 applications just within the first 8 days we were open in 2023. And the applications kept coming. The program was flooded with need and not enough staff capacity or funding to address it. As result, we have moved to a more manageable processing system.

Here is what you need to know:

  • The Energy Assistance Program is NOT an emergency program. It is a program intended to supplement heating costs not provide year-round coverage
  • Application Cycles: We will open application cycles throughout the year. Once we receive the estimated amount for processing, we will close the cycle until the next opening. This will allow for timely processing of completed applications and notices to be sent for those applications that are missing items or need clarification.
  • Service is first come, first serve – There will be NO prioritizing of disconnections or final notices for processing.
  • What should I do if I have a shutoff notice or my utility is disconnected?
Talk to your utility company. Let them know you have submitted an application. They will often call our department to verify.
Make arrangements to go on a manageable payment plan until you receive assistance.
Continue to pay your bill. Please make sure that you are working with your utility company to continue your service while your application is being processed.
  • Assistance Types: The Energy Assistance Program assists with the following heating tyes:
    • Electricity
    • Natural Gas
    • Propane
    • Oil
    • Wood/Pellets
