Growing Pains: New Food Bank Warehouse

NeighborImpact’s Food Bank stores and distributes more than four million pounds of food annually to Central Oregonians struggling with food insecurity. As the hub of the food distribution network in Central Oregon, we are the primary source of food for emergency food sites in this region. In the last quarter of 2021, the food bank distributed food to 144,052 individuals—reflecting a 63 percent increase in just three years. Even before COVID, the existing 30-year-old warehouse already distributed more pounds of food per square foot than any other food bank in the state’s 21-agency food banking network.
To keep up with the increasing local need for food, and to ensure health code compliance, NeighborImpact has commenced a capital campaign to raise $4.7 million for a larger warehouse. The new, 10,691 square foot warehouse will allow us to store roughly 173,300 more pounds of food at any given time. That additional food will provide 138,600 more meals to the fast-growing population of Central Oregonians struggling with hunger. We have secured all but approximately $1.2 million needed to start construction.
