In the Spirit of Volunteering
The sixth quarterly Grateful Clips provided new looks for more than 20 patrons on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Volunteers from NeighborImpact and Connect Central Oregon organized the effort, which took place at the Lighthouse Navigation Center. Welcomed by NeighborImpact volunteers, Central Oregonians experiencing houselessness could eat burgers and hot dogs in the lobby, take a shower at the Shower Truck and get a haircut from one of three volunteer hair
stylists.
“Watching our Shower Truck guests’ transformation when they have the opportunity to receive a haircut is an exceptional experience,” said Sharon Buell, Shepherds House Ministries Shower Truck Coordinator. “For a brief time they are engaged in meaningful conversation with their stylist and the luxury of a professional cut. When finished, one can see a renewed scene of confidence and heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity.”
